"Acquire and store a reserve of food and supplies that will sustain life. . . . As long as I can remember, we have been taught to prepare for the future and to obtain a year's supply of necessities. I would guess that the years of plenty have almost universally caused us to set aside this counsel. I believe the time to disregard this counsel is over. With events in the world today, it must be considered with all seriousness" ("If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear," Ensign, Nov. 1995, 36). Elder L Tom Perry “Build a small supply of food that is part of your normal, daily diet. One way to do this is to purchase a few extra items each week to build a one-week supply of food. Then you can gradually increase your supply until it is sufficient for three months. These items should be rotated regularly to avoid spoilage.” All is Safely Gathered In: Family Home Storage, 2007
Okay, so every time i heard that i felt just…um…well…. a lot bit guilty.
see, i wasn’t anywhere close to having my year’s supply, or even my three month supply. i really had tried. i had even signed up with a coupon clipping group, but I’m just not that organized, and it overwhelmed me a bit (to say the least). so I ended up having tons of papers sent to me and a husband who really couldn’t understand why we were paying for the paper when I never did anything with them.
then my sister emailed me something called sister savings. i didn’t look too closely at the email except to see that it ‘saved’ you on your grocery bill (and i’ve already tried that ya know?); but since most of my friends are very organized, i sent it on to them. then i started getting emails back about how much it was saving them. still, because i am thickheaded, i ignored it.
last year around thanksgiving, we had to get a turkey. i love to find deals (when the pressure is off) and knew that sister saving could probably say where to find the best deal on turkeys….. so i looked at it one day and I realized i could understand this. and guess what...no coupons required! aw yeah!
a year later, thanks to this awesome website, i realize i am pretty dang close to where i need to be. so long story…long. i thought i would pass this on to you (the catch: yes, of course there is one, it is only for folks in Utah or Arizona, but check it out maybe it's not too hard to figure out?!).
oh, and it’s FREE to use and it really is super easy.
Oh, duh, here is the site!

[do you FLY?] a few years ago i discovered this site. i love it, because as you know i need all the help i can getting organized. i don’t do everything exactly as she does, i had to find what worked for me. this year, i am going to teach my kids how to fly. we actually started on monday. they love it! it makes them feel so grown up to put a star sticker next to everything they do on their fly chart. my house was actually messier the first two days, but after they got the hang of it we were off and flying. they get to earn a chance to pick out of the magic treasure box at the end of the week and “buy” things with the stars they earned. tomorrow is their big shopping day! i’m sure we will have a few bugs to work out, but so far they are good little fliers. Once you realize that the road is the goal and that you are always on the road, not to reach a goal, but to enjoy its beauty and its wisdom, life ceases to be a task and becomes natural and simple, in itself an ecstasy.
